Best Wedding Ever!
April 14th - Ceremony and Party
The wedding ceremony and party will be held at John Fluevog Shoes in the Wicker Park neighborhood. It will begin PROMPTLY at 8:15. We'll have a quick ceremony and the rest of the night to eat desserts, drink the drinks, and DANCE! What to wear, you ask? Well, unsurprisingly, the overall feel of the wedding is vintage. But feel free to wear whatever you want! This is not a super formal wedding though so no need to buy anything new or to break out the tuxedo. Well, unless you want to, in which case, go for it!
Why yes! You can try on shoes at the wedding! Some of the wonderful, helpful staff at Fluevog will be on hand if you would like to try on some shoes. And I highly recommend you do! They're pretty awesome shoes. Fluevog Shoes
April 15th - Open House
Let the celebration continue! We wanted to spend as much time as possible with all the people we love so please come to our apartment the day after the wedding! There will be food and drinks for all! This is a very casual event and you can come and go anytime you wish. There is ample free parking both on Ashland and on the side streets around our apartment.
WICKER PARK - John Fluevog Shoes is in the Wicker Park neighborhood. There's lots of awesome things to check out and it's a very walkable area! Check out the great selection of used books at Myopic Books, an unbeatable record selection at Reckless Records, and the vintage goodies at Side B Vintage and Vintage Underground! There's also a ton of yummy restaurants to eat at before the ceremony but here's a few that we recommend - Kizuki (Ramen and Japanese), Cumin (Indian/Nepalese), Antique Taco, Furious Spoon (Ramen), Flash Taco, 5411 Empanadas, Trench (American). We do recommend eating before the ceremony since we'll only have desserts and snacks. There's also a lot of fun bars in the area and some of those include Violet Hour (speakeasy), Revel Room (good cocktails), Links (lots of beer and brats), Emporium (beer and arcade machines). Wicker Park is very accessible by transit. You can take the Blue Line to the Damen stop and you'll be right in the middle of things. There are a few buses that will also get you there - Damen (50), Milwaukee (56), and North (72). Driving and parking in Wicker Park is a total nightmare. We DO NOT recommend driving. Cabs, Lyft, and Uber will also get you there!
ANDERSONVILLE - Our apartment is in the Andersonville neighborhood. Parking and driving here is pretty easy. But you can also get here on the Damen (50) bus (get off at Ashland/Foster) or the Clark (22) bus (get off at Foster). The closest L-train stops are the Argyle Red Line and the Damen Brown Line and you'll have about a 3/4 mile walk to our apt. There's lots of great restaurants in the area but we recommend Hopleaf (Belgian beer and fancy bar food), Lady Gregory's (Irish Bistro and bar), Taste of Lebanon (cheap and delicious middle eastern food), Bad Wolf (cocktails and tacos and bao), Jerry's Sandwiches, and Bar Roma (Italian). There's lots of cool shops to check out as well! We recommend Wooly Mammoth (oddities), Women and Children First (books), and the many vintage/antique stores with lots of fodder for browsing.
Driving around the city if you are unfamiliar with it can be VERY stressful. Getting around with one of the ride share programs really is the easiest and most convenient way of doing that. If you have never used Lyft before, you can download it on your smartphone and easily request a ride! Use the code MATTHEW302045 if you're downloading the app for the first time.
AirBnB has a lot of great options that are very affordable! You can even search by neighborhood within Chicago. The shoe store is in Wicker Park and our apartment is in Andersonville. If you haven't tried AirBnB before, we HIGHLY recommend it!!! We've used AirBnB in a number of different US States, Japan, and Europe and they have all been a great deal a lot more comfortable than a hotel - and are often cheaper!
There are a number of hotels in the Loop which is great if you want to do other sight seeing things on the trip but not super close to the wedding or open house. Parking is often expensive.
If you have any questions on where to stay, please let us know! We're happy to make some suggestions!
Matt and I are so fortunate to already have the things we need to fill our home. And in some cases, we have two of things. But if you would like to contribute to our Ultra Super Mega Honeymoon Cross Country Road Trip, that would certainly be welcome! Over 24 days we will be traveling from Chicago - St.Louis - Grand Canyon - L.A. - San Francisco - Portland - Yellowstone - Badlands - Chicago. Phew! What truer test of marriage? Guess we'll be downloading some audiobooks...
